Seeing Machines Ltd (AIM:SEE, OTC:SEEMF) has signed up a US affiliate of Mitsubishi Electric Mobility as a referral partner for its Guardian driver monitoring system in the USA.

The agreement with Mitsubishi Electric Automotive America's wide customer base and familiarity with the US commercial vehicles segment is expected to help accelerate sales of the Guardian Generation 3 AI-powered driver monitoring solution, the AIM-listed company said.

In December, Seeing Machines formed a strategic collaboration with MEAA's parent, Mitsubishi Electric Mobility, with the Japanese giant investing £26.2 million into the business by building a stake of almost 20%.

The new referral agreement will “facilitate the joint pursuit of business where MEAA has existing commercial relationships across its transport and logistics segment in the region”, the Anglo-Australian transport safety firm said in a statement today.

The company said it would use its own US-based sales force to support the efforts of MEAA, which in turn will provide qualified leads that Seeing Machines’ US team will finalise, with the aim of significantly reducing the traditionally long sales lead times associated with the sale of such a highly technical product like Guardian.

MEAA was said to have already seen “strong initial interest” in the potential of Guardian Generation 3 to enhance safety across some of its customer’s commercial fleets, reported to cover over a million vehicles.

"MEAA has supplied our solutions to commercial vehicles across The Americas for over 20 years,” said Masahiro Kaji, CEO of MEAA. “We are excited to leverage our large customer base to accelerate installations of Guardian Generation 3 and we believe ultimately protect more drivers from the risks associated with distraction and drowsiness.”

Seeing Machines CEO Paul McGlone, added: "While there is a strong focus on automotive in Japan, the aftermarket opportunity that we are pursuing together with MEAA is immediate, material and strategic for our business.

“The Americas present an incredibly large and important market for driver safety technology and having intimate customer insights and existing relationships to leverage will be critical to the successful positioning and acceptance of our class-leading Guardian solution."
